The extended forecast is starting to show winter’s true colors. The Gurnee Fire Department has a few reminders before those temperatures really dip:

• Always turn space heaters off before leaving home or going to bed.
• Only plug space heaters directly into the wall; never use an extension cord.
• Make sure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm when using fuel-burning appliances like space heaters and fireplaces.
